What is the difference between commercial garage doors and residential garage doors?
The biggest difference between commercial garage doors and residential doors is commercial garage doors come oversized 2". I.E. your 16' wide door will come 16'2"
Commercial garage doors usually have reverse angle mount track instead of your typical bracket mounted track. This is necessary on steel buildings where the C channel used on the opening jambs are only 2.5 wide compared to your typical 2x6 found on residential application, which is 5.5" wide.
Commercial doors have less design options. Commercial garage doors typically come in flush, ribbed, or pencil grooved. Standard white finish and a limited amount of colors.
Can I use residential garage doors on my commercial building?
Yes you can. You'll need to let your supplier know what you are looking for and the type of application it is used for. Most residential garage doors max out on 18' wide or 14' tall.
